Team Information: Coral Glades High School is located in Coral Springs, Florida; a part of Fort Lauderdale. They have 12 girls on their competition team.

Coach: Ms. Melissa Prochilo

Captain: Lauren Kistner, Senior

Team Saying: “Teamwork Makes the Team Work”

Team Mascot: Jaguars

Sports to Cheer for: The Varsity Cheerleaders cheer for Football.

Competition Information: The Varsity Cheerleaders do have a competition team that competes at Level 5.

Awards: This group has won at least 5 National titles as well as the MTV Fired Up Challenge. Several of the cheerleaders received several honors at camp including Kelly Donnelly who just participated in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with the UCA All American team.

Minimum Skill to Tryout: Back Handspring

School Spirit Ideas: One item that this team sells at school are leggings with the school’s logo.

School / Cheer Tradition: This team has a really cute tradition to help them get fired up before a game or competition: The team gets in a huddle and everyone says “Jaguars kick butt” and each girl gives the girl next to her a little kick.

Pep Rallies: This cheerleaders also perform at the school’s various pep rallies.

Fund Raisers: Car washes and teach summer camps to the local middle school teams.

During my interview with the team, I was very impressed with all of the girls and how well they got along and really helped each other! All of the girls were very friendly and a pleasure to spend the afternoon with. Here are some of the details of my interview with Lauren:

CIC: What are you working on now for competition?

Lauren: We are working on a lot of spinning! Spinning up, spinning down, 360’s and tick tocks.

CIC: What is your goal this year?

Lauren: The satisfaction that we did our best, it doesn’t really matter if we place 1st.

CIC: If you could sum up being a Captain, what would you say?

Lauren: It is hard!

CIC: Do you have a tip for other Captains?

Lauren: Be nice and friendly. Don’t be too over ruling. Have a good attitude and give constructive criticism. No one wants to be around someone who is bossy.

CIC: What is one thing you enjoy about cheerleading?

Lauren: The rush you get before you go on the mats!
