DAYTONA BEACH -- Competitors of this year's NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship are counting their trophies and medals while local merchants are counting their profits.
Merchants say this year's competition was a nice economic shot in the arm. That's because more than 5,000 competitors and 15,000 spectators stayed in area hotels and ate in local restaurants.
A University of New England team of 12 spent around $30,000 to come, stay and compete.
Even souvenir shops were cheering those profits.
Around 220 teams from Hawaii to Japan spent several days competing.
